FEBRUARY 7, 2022

Minutes of the TOWN OF HORICON FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY   (There was no January 2022 meeting.)

Date: February 7, 2022   Time: 9:40 am

Present: Joan Johnson, Pres., Joyce Greenidge, V. Pres., Ann Murphy, Treas., Sandy Carpenter, Kawana Smith, Library Dir.,  Absent: Pat Tunney, Secy.

The minutes of the December 12, 2021 meeting were read.  There were two corrections, AUD budget and the correct budget balance was $5,771.06.  A motion was made by Joyce and seconded by Sandy to approve the minutes with corrections, motion approved.

Vouchers #1-13 were submitted for signature and approved

Ann gave the treasurer’s report, the balance as of January 2022 is $5,689.86.  A motion was made by Joyce and seconded by Joan to approve the report, motion approved.  Ann was given a check for $78.03 to deposit.  This was the sale of books on EBay between Dec. ‘21 and Jan. ‘22.  We expressed our gratitude for a donation of $500 received December 2021 from the Rotary Club.  Kawana sent out a thank you letter.

Kawana reported that our Website is up and running.  She attended a webinar on negotiating the website for the library and its patrons.  Upgrades will be ready for distribution in June.  She distributed the January Year-end circulation figures.  After some discussion, it was agreed that with the challenges the library faced in 2021, the circulation figures were positive.  Kawana was advised to replenish petty cash, which she will use to purchase small office supplies.

Kawana reported that the OVERDRIVE app will be changed on Feb. 23, 2022 to LIBBY.  New users will not be able to download the OVERDRIVE app after that date.  The LIBBY app will be available for new users to download.  Kawana will receive an information package on the changes.  She also expects to receive a flyer for the patrons which will explain these changes. Kawana was asked by Dave Bourque, Editor of the newsletter, THE BRANTLAKER to write an article about the library for the April 07, 2022 edition.  Kawana asked for contributions from the Board and will submit the article for review when completed.  Because of the recent popularity of TV shows on DVD, Kawana has requested that monies in the EBay account be used to purchase them.  This way she will better be able to monitor their circulation.  She also developed a new voucher form for these purchases.  Ann agreed to the new form which will be an addition to our voucher system.

It was necessary for Kawana to attend a webinar training class for additional information on completing the set up of the Library’s new website.  Joan submitted to the Board a copy of the Library’s year end report which will be given to the Supervisor along with a copy for each Town Board member at their January meeting.

The next library board meeting will be March 21, 2022.  A motion was made to adjourn at 10:40 AM, motion approved.

Respectfully submitted,

Joyce Greenidge
