The meeting opened at 9:30 AM
Attendees: Joan Johnson, Pres., Joyce Greenidge Vice Pres., Treasurer: Ann Murphy, Kawana Smith Library Director, Bob Olson Town Board Member, Sara Mullins. Guests: Greta Heilman, Pam Eastman, Bill Matte. Absent: Pat Tunney
Joan opened the meeting by welcoming Sara Mullins to the Library Board of Trustees.
Ann advised the Board that she has sent her letter of resignation effective December 31, 2022 to the Town. She distributed the treasurer’s report. She has met with Greta in preparation for her taking over the position of Treasurer as of January 2023. Discussion about the annual report and the fact that Alma Alvarez of Chestertown Library has offered to assist us in preparing the report. Ann will put all the records from her tenure on an external USB drive.
A motion was made by Joyce and seconded by Joan to accept the minutes and the treasurer’s report.
Kawana distributed her monthly report on patron attendance and expenses during the month of October. She also distributed corrections to the September report. The following monies were received by the library: $500 donated by Ross Lambert, $950 from Adirondack Foundation for a computer as a result of application submitted by Joan Johnson, $1,000 from the Town for a new computer and $79.08 from the sale of materials in the lobby. There has been no delivery date for the staff computer. Kawana reported the receipt of a Nook and a Kindle, she will purchase chargers for both devices. The new rolling cart was received in damaged condition and will be exchanged for a new one. Kawana reported that she has been in contact with Friends of the Horicon Library to discuss their interest in being involved with any program initiated by the Director. The Board agreed to continue to interact with The Friends on future projects and Joan Johnson will write them a letter verifying this. The first project will be preparing bookmarks to be given out at The Friends’ annual Holiday in Brant Lake event.
Nancy Jenks attended a seminar on the app Libby. She has given Kawana some material to distribute.
Kawana and Alma Alvarez, Chestertown Library Director, have received many requests for Dungeons and Dragons games. They are coordinating to make this happen. Kawana was asked to write up their plans by the January meeting.
Bob Olson reminded the Board that all funds not used by the library will be returned to the General Fund at the end of the year.
A motion was made by Ann Murphy, seconded by Sara Mullins to eliminate children’s fines immediately.
